It may be heat treated, quenched and tempered but thecost for so doing is generally not worth the result. ForgingForging may be done in the range of 2300 F down to 1800 F. Hot WorkingThe alloy may be hot worked in the range of 900 F to 200 F. Cold Working1010 is easily cold worked by traditional means. Following severecold working a stress relief, or full, anneal should be performed. AnnealingA full anneal is done at 1600 to 1800 F followed by slow cooling inthe furnace. A stress relief anneal may be done at 1000 F and slowcooled. In the full annealed condition 1010 steel has a tensilestrength of about 45 ksi. TemperingTempering may be done, after hardening, at 600 to 1100 F dependingupon the strength level desired. Tempering at 1000 F will give atensile strength on the order of 75 ksi.
