Tetra Pak, the world's leading supplier of food processing and packaging solutions, announced its environmental performance in 2013. Compared with the 2020 environmental goals previously set by the company, Tetra Pak has made gratifying progress in three core areas: sustainable product research and development, reducing carbon footprint and promoting packaging recycling
sustainable product development
in order to make packaging products more in line with the requirements of sustainable development, the diameter of the maximum stress on Tetra Pak D sample is committed to continuously testing and increasing the proportion of renewable materials in raw materials through tensile tests, that is, those raw materials that can be continuously regenerated through reasonable management, such as trees and sugarcane. On average, 75% of the raw materials in Tetra Pak packaging are cardboard from forests. As a company certified by the FSC (Forest Management Committee), Tetra Pak promises to use cardboard from negatively managed forests and controllable forest areas, and the ultimate goal is to use 100% of the cardboard certified by the FSC. In 2013, the proportion of FSC certified packages in Tetra Pak packaging increased from 38% in 2012 to 41%. A total of 32billion Tetra Pak packages with FSC certification marks were delivered to consumers, of which nearly 4.4 billion FSC certified packages were launched in the Chinese market

as a long-term goal, Tetra Pak also plans to launch 100% packaging based on renewable raw materials. Important initiatives in 2013 include the simultaneous launch of a 30mm lightweight cap (lightcaptm 30) polymerized with sugarcane extract in the global market. The continuous growth of Tetra Pak biomass capping family has nearly doubled the sales of packaging products equipped with such capping from the previous year, reaching 1.1 billion packages in 2013
reduce carbon footprint
Tetra Pak 2020 environmental goal promises to strive to control the carbon emissions of the whole value chain in 2020 at the level of 2010 no matter how the business grows. Tetra Pak has taken a series of measures to achieve this goal, including formulating an accounting and reporting system based on the enterprise value chain standards in the greenhouse gas inventory agreement. Between 2010 and 2013, Tetra Pak's production increased by 12%, but its own carbon emissions decreased by 2000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent
at the same time, Tetra Pak reported the progress of carbon emission reduction to the public according to the requirements of the carbon Information Disclosure Project (CDP). The carbon Information Disclosure Project is an independent, non-profit organization that supports enterprises to calculate, disclose, manage and share important environmental information. In 2013, Tetra Pak's score for the carbon Information Disclosure Project rose from 77 to 91, while the industry average score was only 49. It is not difficult to see Tetra Pak's efforts in environmental information openness and transparency
In 2013, Tetra Pak also launched a series of innovative processing equipment and technical services to help customers reduce their carbon footprint. For example, Tetra alcross ro Lite whey filtration system has been launched by Tetra Pak to help small and medium-sized dairy enterprises effectively recycle milk, generate social benefits and turn waste into treasure. There is also a new generation of TETRA vertico heat exchanger, which can improve the energy efficiency of heating and cooling in many prefabricated food processing. In addition, Tetra Pak also launched a maintenance system, which can more accurately identify the maintenance demand nodes of customer equipment through monitoring, so as to greatly improve production efficiency and optimize equipment performancepromote packaging recycling
Tetra Pak continues to promote the recycling and reuse of post consumer milk beverage paper packaging. By improving consumers' recycling awareness, sharing knowledge and experience, promoting the construction of recycling sites and supporting the development of recycling technology, it is hoped that the global Tetra Pak packaging recovery rate will achieve the set goal of 40% by 2020
in 2013, the recovery rate of Tetra Pak packaging worldwide reached 24.5%, and about 43billion 250ml standard Tetra Pak packaging were recycled, an increase of 4billion compared with the previous year. Moreover, with the joint efforts of Tetra Pak and relevant government agencies and partners, the total recycling of paper packaging for milk drinks in China increased to 139000 tons in 2013, an increase of 23% over the previous year, which means that about 17billion 250ml standard Tetra Pak packaging has been effectively recycled, equivalent to 41% of Tetra Pak China's total output in 2013. The specific indicators are deliberately high
in fact, Tetra Pak also promotes packaging recycling through product innovation. In 2013, Tetra Pak launched a 1000ml Tetra evero sterile package with a detachable bottle top, which is convenient for consumers to separate the plastic top of this package from the paper bottle body after drinking, and put it into the corresponding garbage cans for recycling
Claes Du rietz, vice president of Tetra Pak's environmental affairs, said: achieving excellent environmental performance is part of Tetra Pak's 2020 strategic goals, and it is also a crucial measure for the company's future and customers. The improvement of environmental performance is permeated in every operation link of Tetra Pak, from the procurement, processing and packaging system to the various technical services and support provided to customers, all of which are helping us to continuously achieve our challenging environmental goals
